Here, we report on the details of a novel method for synthesizing ultra-thin manganese dioxide nanosheets that are intrinsically intercalated with sodium ions during their formation using molten-salt-assisted chemical vapor deposition. The study thoroughly characterizes the structural and electrochemical properties of this material, revealing that ambient moisture significantly influences its ionic transport. Furthermore, the researchers demonstrate the potential of these Na-MnO2 nanosheets in neuromorphic applications, showcasing their ability to mimic synaptic behavior like short-term and long-term potentiation in two-terminal devices. The findings suggest that this synthesized material holds promise for ion-mediated charge transport systems beyond traditional energy storage.
